Horizontal decalage: inconsistency in forms of reasoning
This inconsistency in forms of reasoning across different tasks is referred to as horizontal decalage and is demonstrated by passing some concrete operational reasoning tasks while failing others.
But after searching through Piaget's books and articles, Chapman could not find such a claim; instead, he found that Piaget stated there is no reason to expect consistency and he reported inconsist- ency (horizontal decalage).
Thus, although some interpretations of his theory assume that he expected consistency in reason- ing within stages, he actually expected horizontal decalages (inconsistency in reasoning across tasks).
